Katie Leonard has dedicated her entire career exclusively to family law. Since 2009, she has successfully represented clients in simple and complex actions for divorce, child custody, support and alimony, modification of previous orders, paternity and legitimation, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements and contempt actions. She is trained as a Guardian ad litem and has considerable first-chair trial experience in family law, especially contested, high-asset divorce actions and complex child custody cases. Prior to founding The Leonard Firm, Katie spent the first 10 years of her practice at one of the most prestigious family law firms in Atlanta. With extensive litigation experience in family law, Katie has practiced in 18 counties in Georgia, including all metropolitan-Atlanta counties, and appeared before more than 50 different judges.

In addition to her litigation practice, Katie is active in the Georgia State and Cobb County Bar Associations. She serves on the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Georgia and the Cobb Bar Association’s Board of Trustees. Katie is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and is a graduate of 2020 Class of Leadership Cobb. Early in her practice, Katie graduated from the State Bar’s Leadership Academy and went on to serve as the co-chair of the State Bar’s Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Family Law Committee from 2014 through 2016. Katie is a former President of the Younger Lawyers Section of the Cobb County Bar Association, and is a current member of the Cobb Bar Association’s Family Law Section and Solo/Small Firm Section.

While maintaining a law practice and participating in Bar activities, Katie has not forgotten her obligations to the community. She volunteers her time to various fundraising and pro bono legal initiatives, including Legal Aid’s Justice Jam, where she has served on the planning committee. She has volunteered for countless pro bono projects and free legal clinics, including the State Bar’s Veteran’s Affairs Section legal clinic. Along with another colleague, Katie founded the Cobb Bar Association’s Hunger Games, a food drive during the month of November to benefit patrons of the Marietta Food Pantry.

As a result of her involvement in various legal organizations and the community, Katie was recognized in the inaugural class of Delta Zeta Sorority’s “35 Under 35,” a program honoring select members nationwide who have achieved success and recognition in their chosen career field by the age of 35.

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Katie now lives in Marietta with her husband, Judge Robert D. Leonard II of the Superior Court of Cobb County. She earned her J.D. from the University of Memphis and graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending time on the lake with her husband, step-children and their three black labs: Jettie, Tuck and Gus.
